Final Thoughts - World Series

Although I had picked the Rays to win, I'm glad the Phillies are World Series champions. This team has been around since 1883, but only has two World Series titles (1980 and 2008). I'm also happy for the city of Philadelphia, which hasn't had any of their teams win a championship since 1983.

There a lot of people who deserve credit for this victory. One of them is GM Pat Gillick.

Gillick was the General Manager for the Blue Jays during their "glory days." It seems that wherever he goes, success follows him. He's had success with the Jays, the Orioles, the Mariners, and now the Phillies.

Congratulations to all the Philadelphia Phillies, espeically to former Blue Jays Jayson Werth and (Canadian) Matt Stairs, and former Jays manager Jimy Williams (Phillies' Bench Coach).

In terms of predictions, this was my worst showing; so, I don't want to talk about it. Once again, everything that happens during the regular season goes out the window once the playoffs start.

MLB Playoff Predictions - World Series

Wow.....I've been so off the mark this year. I was wrong on both LCS match ups. Brutal, just brutal.

Onto the big one:

World Series 2008

Tampa Bay over Philadelphia in 7

This was tough to call. I want to see the Rays win because they've had to deal with a lot of losing in their history. Finally, they are winning and have played like champions. They deserve the title. On the other hand, I want the Phillies to win because they're a team that fights for everything and always wins. I want Ryan Howard, Chase Utley and Cole Hamels to be rewarded. Plus, Matt Stairs deserves a World Series ring.

I think the Rays will put it out because they're more fresh. They're only going on two days rest. Meanwhile, Philadelphia hasn't played in a week. This has ceased their momentum and they will certainly be rusty. Any team that has a long layoff between playoff rounds always loses. Look at the 2006 Tigers and the 2007 Rockies.

In any case, it will be a very entertaining World Series. Enjoy!

MLB Playoff Predictions - League Championship Series

Oh man. I got burned badly. I'd like to thank the Angels, Cubs and White Sox for making me look like an idiot.

During the division series, I was right on one of the four match ups. The correct prediction was not a perfect one.

Onto to the LCS:

American League Championship Series

Boston over Tampa Bay in 6

National League Championship Series

Los Angeles over Philadelphia in 7

The Dodgers are riding a huge wave of momentum. That will carry on to the World Series. Philadelphia is a great team and the NLCS will be close. In the end, Joe Torre and his team will pull it out.

Unlike the Angels, the Rays will be tough competition for the Red Sox. Both teams can hit and pitch. However, the Red Sox have been here before and they know how to come up with the clutch hit.

Any World Series is worth watching; but when there's a good storyline, it's REALLY worth watching. Manny Ramirez's return to Boston would be the biggest World Series storyline since the Red Sox ended their curse in 2004. Joe Torre's return to the World Series and Boston would also be very intriguing. The former manager of the Yankees faces the arch nemisis Red Sox; but this time, it's on a bigger stage.

MLB Playoff Predictions - Division Series

American League Division Series

LA Angels over Boston in 4
Chicago White Sox over Tampa Bay in 5

National League Division Series

Chicago Cubs over LA Dodgers in 4
Philadelphia over Milwaukee in 3

Players on Tampa and Milwaukee are getting their first-ever playoff experience. Their opponents have been to the dance before, which is a large factor. The only reason why Tampa will manage to get to five games is because the White Sox aren't very dominant, but will pull it out in the end.

The Dodgers are good. The Cubs are better.

The Angels are dangerous. However, they better not take Boston lightly. Don't forget, the Red Sox are the defending World Series champions.

Life Isn't Fair

Last week, the Los Angeles Dodgers clinched the NL West Division title. They finished the regular season with a record of 84-78, six games above the .500 mark (.519).

Meanwhile, the Blue Jays finished 4th in the AL East with a record of 86-76; ten games above the .500 mark (.531).

Based on this information, I've come to the following conclusions:

1. The NL West is crap
2. The AL East is ridiculously tough
3. Sometimes, life isn't fair

The Dark Knight - Initial Thoughts

It's simply AWESOME!

However, I bought too much into the hype and came out a little disappointed. I was expecting to watch something that would blow me away. Instead, I watched a film that is phenomenal, but didn't provide me with the personal impact I was hoping for.

Moral of the story: Ignore the hype and go in with a clear head.

Anyway, The Dark Knight is the perfect adaptation of the Batman character. Batman is a dark, tortured person, who wants the city streets to be rid of crime. He completes this task because he feels it's right and doesn't care about the consequences, or how people judge his actions. He's not trying to be a role model.

Heath was fantastic as the Joker. But again, I bought into the hype and wasn't blown away with his performance. However, the MVP of this film is Aaron Eckhart. He steals the show. The best part of The Dark Knight is the development of Harvey Dent/TwoFace.

8.5 out of 10. Go see this film!

Spiderman '77

Apparently, during the late 1970's, there was a live action Spiderman series.

It looks as though the show didn't take off and was canceled. Perhaps it was the tacky costume. Maybe it was the fact that the actor playing JJJ did not look like JJJ.

Regardless, you gotta love that 70's rift.

THAT DOES IT!!!!

To describe myself as a long suffering Blue Jays fan is a gross understatement. I love the sport. I love the team. However, the product on the field right now is making me want to rip my hair out. Part of the blame goes to the players and coaches. But most of my finger pointing goes straight to the front office management.

THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING! They've made too many mistakes - Frank Thomas, AJ Burnett, letting Reed Johnson go, etc. And that's just this year! Let's not forget Corey Koskie, Tomo Ohka, making Josh Towers a starter, etc.

There needs to be accountability. There needs to be a change. Nothing against JP Richardi or Paul Godfrey, but their time has come.

To express my dissatisfaction with the Jays' front office, I have decided that effective immediately, I am withdrawing the term "Rogers Centre" from my vocabulary. This term represents how the Jays have been swallowed up by a giant conglomerate and lost their identity as a Major League Baseball franchise. From this point forward, I will call Toronto's stadium by its real name - Skydome.

Do you hear me, Ted?

Stephen Colbert Licenses The Hockey Theme

A number of GM workers were laid off in Oshawa. Our Canadian soldiers are risking their lives in Afghanistan. Gas prices are still rising.

Yet, all we seem to care about is The Hockey Theme; a 60-second jingle that opened up hockey broadcasts.

Seriously, what's wrong with all of us?

I am happy Ms. Claman can finally have some closure. However, I still think CTV is full of crap. They don't care about Ms. Claman or the "legacy" of The Hockey Theme. All they care about is the millions they're going to make off the jingle.

You know what we all need? Stephen Colbert:

Final Thoughts: Stanley Cup Playoffs

I'd like to thank the Detroit Red Wings for making me look like a genius. A perfect prediction!

As I said throughout the playoffs, no one was going to beat the Red Wings. They were simply too strong, too experienced, too talented.

You have to give the Pittsburgh Penguins a lot of credit. They fought hard every game and didn't give up until the final buzzer. The Penguins are also talented and the majority of their players are very young. Keep a close eye on this team. Pittsburgh might not have won this year, but they will in the future. You're looking at a future powerhouse. The Penguins of today might be a reincarnation of the 1980's Edmonton Oilers.

It's actually ironic. When the Penguins won their two championships in the early 90's, the clinching victories were on the road - '91 in Minnesota and '92 in Chicago. Finally, Pittsburgh's Melon Arena (or whatever it's called now) hosts a Stanley Cup ceremony, and it's for the opposing team.

RECAP:

First round - five out of eight

Second round - one out of four

Third round - one out of two

Final round - one out of one

Total score - 8 out of 15; 53%

Ouch.

NBA Playoff Predictions - Final Round

In round three, I was right on one of the two match-ups. No perfect predictions.

Let's go to the next round:

NBA Championship

Los Angeles over Boston in 7

This is going to be one hell of a series. It's a classic match-up. The Celtics and Lakers have played each other for the league title many times before. During the 80's it was Bird vs. Magic. This year, it's KG vs. Kobe.

I'm quite torn with this series. Part of me wants to see Kevin Garnett finally win a championship. He deserves it! But everyone keeps ranting about how great the Celtics have been this year. Everyone keeps ranting about how Boston went worse to first. Seriously, even before the season started, people were picking the Celtics to represent the Eastern Conference and it bugged the hell out of me. Therefore, part of me wants to see the mighty Celtics knocked off their throne. If anyone can do it, it's Kobe and the Lakers.

Regardless, whoever wins will deserve it. I have no problem being wrong.

The Hek

PS: Congratulations to the Detroit Red Wings - 2008 Stanley Cup Champions! I'll write my final thoughts tomorrow.

NHL Playoff Predictions - Stanley Cup Final

In round three, I was right on one of the two match-ups. No perfect predictions.

Once again, damn you Philadelphia, damn you.

2008 Stanley Cup Final

Detroit over Pittsburgh in 6

I hate to sound like a broken record, but the Red Wings are a superior team. Both teams have cruised to the championship. Detroit is well experienced and their ability to score goals is phenomenal. The Penguins are a great team. They have played well. However, it's not their year. Wayne Gretzky's Oilers were defeated in their first Stanley Cup appearance. A similar fate will happen to Sydney Crosby.

NBA Playoff Predictions - Round 3

Again, please bear with me.

In round two, I was four for four! Out of the four match-ups, two were perfect predictions. Now, that's what I call BALLLLLLLLINNNNN'

Onto the conference finals:

Eastern Conference

Detroit over Boston in 7

Western Conference

Los Angeles over San Antonio in 6

- I really think the Pistons can beat the Celtics. Detroit is an excellent team that has quietly gone about their business, while Boston has spent most of the time in the spotlight. If anyone can beat Boston, it's the Pistons.

- The Lakers and Spurs will be an entertaining series. The deciding factor: Kobe.

Pres. Bush Loves Roy Halladay

During a recent conversation with Politico.com, George W. Bush was asked to pick one pitcher he would try to sign if he was still an MLB team owner.

The President's response: Roy Halladay

"[Halladay] is a steady guy, he burns up innings," explained Bush.

Good choice, Mr. President! Good choice. Sure, Halladay's record is 4-5, but we all know that's because he wasn't getting any run support.

NBA Playoff Predictions - Round 2

Okay, the second round has started; so please bare with me.

In round one, I was right on six of the eight match-ups. Out of the six, one was a perfect prediction (Cleveland/Washington).

(No) Thank you Orlando. (No) Thank you Utah.

Onto the next round:

Eastern Conference

Boston over Cleveland in 6
Detroit over Orlando in 5

Western Conference

San Antonio over New Orleans in 7
LA Lakers over Utah in 5

- Don't see anyone beating Detroit, Boston or the Lakers.

- I think the Spurs' playoff experience will outmatch the Hornets.

The Playoffs Still Exist In Toronto

Attention Toronto sports fans! You still have a team in the midst of a playoff run!

The Toronto Marlies have advanced to the second round of the AHL playoffs after defeating the San Antonio Rampage in seven games. The Marlies will now face the Syracuse Crunch for the North Division title and a chance to reach the semi-finals.

For some reason, game seven of the first-round series against San Antonio only attracted 1,982 fans to the Ricoh Coliseum. That arena can hold 7,907 people for hockey. Granted, there was a Raptors game. Still, it's disappointing and unacceptable.

There's no reason why the Marlies should be drawing low numbers at this point in time. They're the only Toronto-area team that is currently in the playoffs. No excuses, Toronto.

Game 1 - Friday, May 2, 7:30pm; Ricoh Coliseum

Raps/Magic Game 5 Thoughts

Magic 102 Raptors 92

It was painful, but it's over now.

The Raptors were simply out played. They didn't bring their "A-Game." Sure, there were spurts of good play; but in the end, the Raps ran out of gas.

Series over. Season over. I'll write some final thoughts later this week.

Player(s) of the game: Dwight Howard - 21 points, 21 rebounds, Rishard Lewis - 18 points, 13 rebounds.

Honourable mention: Chris Bosh - 16 points, 9 rebounds. A rare "off-night" for CB4. Unfortunately, his teammates had off-nights too.

Raps/Magic Game 4 Thoughts

Not much can be said after this one. The Magic kept pressing and finally broke through.

Player of the game: Chris Bosh - 39 points, 15 rebounds. Once again, CB4 played out of his mind!

Honourable mention: Rishard Lewis - 27 points, 13 rebounds

On to game five in Orlando. It's do-or-die time for the Raptors.

Raps/Magic Game 3 Thoughts

Raptors 108 Magic 94

Now that's how you win a basketball game.

The Raptors were stronger and more aggressive last night. From the opening tip, they controlled the tone and pace. Home court advantage has clearly become a major factor in this series. A huge salute definitely has to go out to the 20,000 fans that packed the Air Canada Centre. They were loud and supportive for the entire game. The sea of red was an awesome sight.

Game four takes place on Saturday at 3pm. The Raptors must bring the same energy they had in game three.

Player(s) of the game: TJ Ford - 21 points, Chris Bosh - 15 points, Jason Kapono - 15 points, and Jose Calderon - 18 points. When Toronto spreads the scoring around, great things happen.

Honourable mention(s): Hedo Turkoglu - 26 points; Dwight Howard - 19 points, 12 rebounds

Now that's what you call a "game face."

NHL Playoff Predictions - Round Two

In round one, I was right on five of the eight match-ups. Out of the five, one was a perfect prediction (Detroit in six). On to the second round:

Eastern Conference

Montreal over Philadelphia in 6
NY Rangers over Pittsburgh in 6

Western Conference

Detroit over Colorado in 5
San Jose over Dallas in 6

- It got a little scary, but my Habs pulled through. The Flyers are very similar to the Bruins. Hopefully, Montreal won't get too comfortable if they take a series lead like they did in the first round. Carey Price is an amazing goalie; and he's only 19-years-old. However, if he lets in a soft goal, his confidence is shaken.

- Right now at this very moment, Sean Avery is plotting the many ways he's going to bully Sidney Crosby.

- Again....Detroit....very strong.

Raps/Magic Game 2 Thoughts

Magic 104 Raptors 103

That was a much better effort. Unfortunately, it's still a loss and the Raptors find themselves down two games to none.

Despite their solid play, what hurt the Raps was their performance during the first quarter. Once again, Orlando dominated the first 12 minutes, outscoring Toronto 35-18. The Raptors looked uncoordinated and were very sloppy. If you take away the first quarter, the Raps actually outscored the Magic 85-69. However, you can't tank one quarter and play well for the remaining three. Successful basketball teams don't operate like that.

Player of the game: Dwight Howard - 29 points, 20 rebounds (Will somebody throw a net on this guy? Where's Mike O'Hara and Jimmy Flaherty when you need them?)

Honourable mention: Chris Bosh - 29 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists

Anyone who blames Bosh for the loss and dumps on him for missing that last shot is out of line. CB4 played out of his mind. He was phenomenal! This loss was a result of many factors. Let's not forget Carlos Delfino's miss at the free-throw line late in the 4th quarter. There were a number of defensive assignments blown as well. And of course, let's not forget about the first quarter.

On to Toronto for games three and four. My head expects a split. My heart expects the Raptors to tie up the series.

Wear red at the ACC.

The Frank Thomas Saga

It began with a bang and ended with a whimper.

I've spent the last two days - as have most Blue Jays fans - trying to comprehend Frank Thomas' sudden release. When he signed with the Jays, I was worried that the Big Hurt's time in Toronto would turn into a disaster; similar to what occurred when Hakeem Olajuwon played for the Raptors. Unfortunately, that's exactly what happened.

We must ask ourselves the following questions:

Did Frank Thomas deserve to get benched?

Absolutely. The man was hitting .167 with just ten hits and three homeruns. Thomas was brought in to be a power hitter and was failing to produce. If you can't do your job properly, you're going to lose your job.

I disagree with people who say, "Frank Thomas always starts the season in a slump and needs a few months before he can be effective. You just have to be patient with him."

What kind of logic is that? What kind of organization would agree to such a theory? Any team that is content with their power hitter taking two months of the regular season to warm up before becoming effective does not deserve to be in the majors. "Warming up" takes place in March during Spring Training. Once the regular season starts, you bring your A-game, day in and day out. Sure, there are days during the regular season when a player has a bad game. Sometimes, a player find himself in a slump. So what do you do? You work as hard as you can to overcome the slump. Otherwise, you're going to find yourself on the bench.

I cannot believe some fans are okay with Thomas' lack of production. I cannot believe some fans are okay with the fact that Thomas doesn't start playing well until midway through the season. I understand he's hit over 500 homeruns. I understand he's a hall-of-famer. I understand he's one of the best ball players of the 90's. I completely agree and accept that. However, I will not put Frank Thomas on a pedestal, nor will I view him differently when compared to his teammates. If Matt Stairs, or Lyle Overbay, or Alex Rios, or Vernon Wells were to hit .167, the fans would DEMAND the unproductive player be benched, released, traded, or demoted to Syracuse. You would never hear "Oh, is just being . He always needs a few months to warm up before he starts to hit well. Just give it some time." Last season, Thomas had a pretty good season. But by the time he statistics started to climb, it was too late. The Blue Jays had already played themselves out of contention. There was no way the Jays could allow a similar thing to happen this year. Something had to be done.

Was money a factor in the decision to bench Thomas?

Of course. Whether you like it or not, professional baseball is a business. At the end of the day, it's all about making a profit. Money is spent to develop a winning team. No owner likes to waste money. How would you feel if you paid your star player millions of dollars and he failed to produce? George Steinbrenner wouldn't put up with it; neither should Ted Rogers.

Did Frank Thomas handle the situation well?

No way! He clearly shot himself in the foot. Baseball is a team sport. I don't care if you're the superstar who leads the team in everything, or the utility player who might get 60 at-bats if he's lucky; you do not put your needs ahead of the team's needs. Yes, being benched stinks, but you suck it up, act in a professional manner, and do whatever you can to get back in the lineup. You do not do what Frank Thomas did. You DO NOT refuse to sit in the dugout. You DO NOT refuse to shake your teammates' hands after they win a match. Thomas' actions were inappropriate, unprofessional, childish and downright rude.

Will Thomas' absence hurt the Jays?

No. There are enough players to pick up the slack. Stairs has been hitting well, as is Aaron Hill, Rios and Wells. Shannon Stewart and Rod Barajas will also get more playing time, which couldn't happen with Thomas in the lineup. Granted, every hitter needs to hit the ball better. But it's not like Thomas was making a large offensive impact.

I guess you can call this closure. It's a shame things had to end like this. However, these things happen. It's not the first time this has happened (Randy Myers, Mike Stanley, Erik Hanson) and it probably won't be the last (Barry Bonds?????***).

Raps/Magic Game 1 Thoughts

That was ugly.

I'm sorry, but when you allow 43 first-quarter points, you deserve to lose. When you shoot only 37.6% from inside the arc, you deserve to lose.

Too many times this season the Raptors have dug themselves into these holes. They play lousy during the first quarter, but get stronger as the game goes on. In most cases, it was too little, too late. Strong consistent play for all four quarters will lead to success. If the Raps want to take charge they have to be more aggressive and have better starts; plain and simple.

Player of the Game: Dwight Howard - 25 points, 22 rebounds

Honourable mention: Anthony Parker - 24 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists

NBA Playoff Predictions - Round One

Eastern Conference

Boston over Atlanta in 4
Detroit over Philadelphia in 5
Toronto over Orlando in 7
Cleveland over Washington in 6

Western Conference

LA Lakers over Denver in 6
New Orleans over Dallas in 6
San Antonio over Phoenix in 7
Houston over Utah in 7

The Raptors were a tough call. In the end, I went with my heart. It all depends on which Raptors team will show up - the team that won 41 games or the team that lost 41 games. I won't be surprised if the Magic win the series. But I'm hoping that won't happen.

The Western Conference was jam packed this year. The eight competing teams are only separated by a few percentage points. Eighth place Denver was only seven games behind the first place Lakers.

Tracking The Jays

Let's see...

They swept the Red Sox, then they got swept by Oakland, and then yesterday, they swept the Rangers.

Interesting.

They're in Baltimore for a two-game set. They should be able to beat the Orioles. A split would be okay; taking both games would be better.

Something to consider:

Joe Inglett clearly doesn't want to go back to Syracuse. That's fine as long as he continues to play well. Looks like Marco Scutaro has some competition. Of course, this will all change once Scott Rolen comes off the DL.

7-5 record? Good enough.......for now.

- Why are the Capitals good? Two words: Alex Ovechkin

"My son is not the father of this girl's baby. No sixteen-year-old girl is going to ruin my son's life. My son cannot be the father. It's impossible. He only has one testicle."

The woman's son was just a few feet away from her.

Please Help CHEV Radio; Sign Our Petition

Please help CHEV Radio by signing our petition to the CRTC

The Town of Markham, Ontario, is one of the most diverse communities in Canada. With many unique cultural backgrounds, the town deserves an outlet that brings all these cultures together. The best way to do that is through community radio. Since 2004, CHEV Radio has been the voice of Markham; broadcasting sports, entertainment and community programming. CHEV's website (www.chevradioam.com) also has local news stories, community events, podcasts, weather forecasts and traffic updates.

Currently an internet-radio station, CHEV Radio has sent an application to the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) for an AM frequency. Unfortunately, the CRTC has been hesitant in giving CHEV a frequency. The reasons for this are unknown. However, CHEV's tireless staff have been working hard for the past two years adhering to the CRTC's requirements.

The residents of Markham deserve a community radio station. The Town of Markham needs CHEV Radio. By signing this petition, we are showing the CRTC that there is a need for a community radio station in Markham. CHEV Radio will bring Markham's diverse residents together and celebrate their diversity. Therefore, it is time for the CRTC to grant an AM frequency to CHEV Radio.

To sign the petition, please click here.

Thank you for your support. Please feel free to forward this message to your friends, co-workers, and family.

Blue Jays Thriller

I love this time of year.

Why you ask? It's simple....

SPRING TRAINING!!!!

The Blue Jays are in Florida, getting ready for the upcoming season. Their first exhibition game is this Thursday against Detroit.

In honour of Spring Training, here's a video that was posted on Yahoo's MLB Blog. It's a unique preview of the 1984 Blue Jays. It features CityTV's Peter Gross.

For the record, the Jays had a great season in '84. Unfortunately, the Detroit Tigers had a much, much, MUCH better season.

Ode To The No-Trade Clause

I'm trying really hard to figure out what could possibly be going through the mind of Mats Sundin.

Let me see if I get this straight:

- He does not want to waive his no-trade clause
- He wants to stay in Toronto
- He wants to be a Maple Leaf until he draws his last breath
- He wants to win a cup in Toronto
- He does not want to play for another team/contender

Is he nuts? Seriously, what kind of Kool-Aid are they serving at the Air Canada Centre? Did somebody spike Mats Sundin's Gatorade?

Sundin is huge value. The Leafs can trade him to a number of teams and get young quality talent in return. Best of all, Sundin can go to a contender and win a Stanley Cup.

But he doesn't want that.

Sundin would rather stay with the Leafs, who won't make the playoffs for at least a couple more seasons. He says he wants to be part of the 'journey to a championship' and refuses to be a 'rent-a-player.' Honestly, what's so wrong with being a 'rent-a-player?' David Cone didn't have a problem with it when he was traded to the Blue Jays late in the '92 season. Ditto for Ricky Henderson in '93.

Sundin's loyalty must be applauded, but also questioned. One can make the strong argument that his loyalty will hurt the Maple Leafs in the long run. However, if that's what he wants to do, then we should accept it. Given his accomplishments, Leaf fans MUST RESPECT Sundin's decision.

However....

Mark my words. Come September, 2008, Mats Sundin will not be playing for the Maple Leafs.

Obay - From The Makers Of 'WhyBecauseISaidSo'

So I'm sitting on a York Region Transit bus and I notice these advertisements for a drug called Obay. I've also seen these ads in bus shelters.

Apparently, Obay is medication that gets children to do what their parents want. The advertisements feature slogans such as "My son had his own ideas. Obay put a stop to that."

Obviously, it's a parody and very good one at that. What I'd like to know is who's behind all this.

Have you seen the ads? Any idea who's putting them up?

Great....The Song's Stuck In My Head Now

You might remember this fun little tune.

This was the first commercial that aired right after the Blue Jays won the World Series in 1993.

Now that I think of it, the "Always Coca-Cola" campaign was very effective. It literally integrated into daily life. As least my life that is. Although, I can't remember doing it, I'm fully certain I would sing this jingle a few times.

15 years later, I feel bad being manipulated like that. Then again, I was a child at the time.

Choices: Barack Or Hillary

I think I'm on to something.

Every American voter who is supporting the Democrats has a tough choice: Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton. They both have their strengths and weaknesses. They both have their core groups. Someone has to lead the party. The question is who will it be. It's a very tough choice. However, I've come up with a way that will eliminate the tough choice and make every liberal voter happy.

LET'S FUSE THEM!

Yes, your reading that correctly. Let's take Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton and fuse them together. Their bodies, their minds, their souls, their likes, their dislikes, their strengths. Let's bring it all together and create the ultimate democratic presidential candidate: Barack Clinton, or Hillary Obama, or we can give this political beast a cool acronym like BOHC, or HRCBHO.

ALL HAIL PRESIDENT HRCBHO!!!!

Can it be done? Absolutely! Come on, the Pentagon can't be just a building with conference rooms. There's bound to be some top secret laboratory in the bowels of the building, with some weird contraption that can make it happen. Seriously, how hard can it be?

That, my friend, is an Eric Rosenhek solution.

What Do You Know, Agent Zero?

Dear Gilbert Arenas,

I know you're a little bitter because you've only played eight games this season. It must be tough being injured and watching your team fall apart. One can only imagine where the Washington Wizards would be if you were healthy.

But Gilbert - and I say this with full sincerity - Don't take your frustration out on Jose Calderon.

Jose deserves to be on the Eastern All-Star team. Without him, the Raptors would not have won as many games as they have so far this season. The man makes things happen. You wish you had a player like Jose on your team.

Just because he doesn't have the same zest and style like you, or Kobe, or Lebron, doesn't mean he's not an All-Star.

However, I understand you're getting some nice coin from the NBA and therefore, have to have some compelling stuff on your blog. So, I will let this slide. Meanwhile, I think you should mark March 7th on your calender. That's when the Raptors host your Wizards. Something tells me Jose will be giving you a retort.

All the best,

Past Readings

I've decided to re-read some of my old books from past literature courses at Carleton.

These were books that I never finished reading because the instructor expected me to read the whole thing within a week, along with all the other readings I had. There were other books that I actually finished, but didn't enjoy because I was forced to analyze every little detail.

Super Bowl Upset

I'm still shell shocked.

Usually, the actual championship match is a lackluster affair. One team usually dominates the other and turns the game into a blowout. Not this year.

I haven't seen an exciting and close Super Bowl since XXXIV (Rams/Titans) and XXXVI (Patriots/Rams).

As football fans digest the biggest upset in NFL history, here are some thoughts that are currently swimming in my head:

- Eli Manning lifted a huge amount of weight off his shoulders.

- Tyree and Plexico are names that will be remembered forever.

- How did Eli break free from the swarm of New England defenders?

- For the Patriots, 18-1 is a losing season.

- How many endorsement deals did Tom Brady lose after last night?

- The New York Giants play in New Jersey.

- Tom Petty was awesome! Much better then Prince last year.

- Eli vs. Payton: Next year's Super Bowl? A dream match up.

- The 95/96 Red Wings, the 06/07 Mavericks, and the 07 Mets are laughing at the Patriots.

- Why would two gorgeous women hook up with two corporate animated beavers? Has to be more then the furniture. Can anyone say inner-species erotica?

- Sucks to be a New York Jets fan.

My Super Bowl Prediction

Patriots by ten points.

That's all I really have to say.

I feel everyone should watch this game, especially non-football fans. It will be your last chance to see one of the best football teams ever assembled. Maybe the greatest team in NFL history. Years from now, children will sit in history class and learn about the 2007 New England Patriots.
