Please Help CHEV Radio; Sign Our Petition

Please help CHEV Radio by signing our petition to the CRTC

The Town of Markham, Ontario, is one of the most diverse communities in Canada. With many unique cultural backgrounds, the town deserves an outlet that brings all these cultures together. The best way to do that is through community radio. Since 2004, CHEV Radio has been the voice of Markham; broadcasting sports, entertainment and community programming. CHEV's website (www.chevradioam.com) also has local news stories, community events, podcasts, weather forecasts and traffic updates.

Currently an internet-radio station, CHEV Radio has sent an application to the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) for an AM frequency. Unfortunately, the CRTC has been hesitant in giving CHEV a frequency. The reasons for this are unknown. However, CHEV's tireless staff have been working hard for the past two years adhering to the CRTC's requirements.

The residents of Markham deserve a community radio station. The Town of Markham needs CHEV Radio. By signing this petition, we are showing the CRTC that there is a need for a community radio station in Markham. CHEV Radio will bring Markham's diverse residents together and celebrate their diversity. Therefore, it is time for the CRTC to grant an AM frequency to CHEV Radio.

Thank you for your support. Please feel free to forward this message to your friends, co-workers, and family.

I Made A Documentary Film!

The camera was a bit shaky, the sound was off in some spots, and the graphics weren't fantastic.

But otherwise, it's awesome!

Here's the write up:

On June 20, the Christian Children's Fund of Canada officially opened their new head office in Markham. CHEV Radio was there.

FOOTBALL AND FUNDRAISING

This Thursday, watch the Argos challenge the Montreal Alouettes, while supporting a great cause.

The Toronto Argonauts and The Centre for Dreams are partnering up for an exciting fundraising event on Thursday July 26th, 2007. For every ticket that is sold, $5.00 will go towards the centre and helping them continue running their educational programs and life skills training.

The Centre for Dreams is a day program for adults living with a developmental challenge and it is their mission to help these individuals continue to live a meaningful and fulfilling life that they otherwise would probably not have. After the age of 21, there is no longer any education provided from the public school system and they virtually have nothing left to do. It is important that we do not forget these very special individuals as they deserve just as much as anyone else, the same respect and opportunities in life.

With that said, listed below are some incentives you can get or help The Centre for Dreams receive with your support:

The Centre for Dreams Group Incentives:

* 0-90 Tickets: Ticket Upgrade for 4
* 100-199: Autographed Merchandise
* 200-399: Player/Cheerleader to attend a DREAMS event
* 400-499: Participation in Fan Tunnel
* 500-699: Field Passes
* 700-949: Video Board Spot
* 1000: Cheque Presentation on field pre-game

This is a great event to gather a group of your friends together, hang out and enjoy this amazing summer weather – all for a great cause. In order to receive the discounted prices on tickets, a form must be filled in and faxed. If you would like more information about the game and ordering tickets or about The Centre for Dreams, feel free to visit their website at www.dreamsinc.ca or contact Michelle directly 905.209.9092.

Here's a video I made featuring Slapshot The Bear. It was filmed during the York Regional Police Community Skate on March 14.

Yes, that's me in the bear costume.

New Podcast

The Audio Circus will return with a new episode, this Sunday. Meanwhile, I have begun a second podcast involving CHEV.

CHEV Radio Podcasts features clips from the current lineup of shows. Right now, I've started with Bring The Noise. I hope to include other programs very shortly. It's sort of a work in progress but, good enough to be launched.

Enjoy.

Go Away, Snow!

Are you happy now? You got your #@$&ing snow!

Fortunately, there have not been any serious accidents. The only downside is that any travelling will be longer then usual. Normally, it takes me 45 minutes to get to CHEV. Today, it took a good hour and a half. If there is one thing to remember about a huge snowfall, it's to make sure you have lots of patience.

Case in point - I was on the bus and standing across from me, was a teacher I had back in high school. Now this teacher (who shall remain nameless) was rumoured to keep a bottle of hard liquor in her desk and consume it during classes (Hey, that's only what I heard). It's been close to ten years since I was in this teacher's class and I think she's still on the sauce.

Anyway, her stop is coming up but she, nor any other passenger, didn't pull the string to request the stop. Since no one was standing at the stop, the bus driver just kept going. This former teacher of mine literally freaks out. She starts to yell at the bus driver, who calmly pulls over and lets her off. I felt really bad for the driver. It wasn't his fault, nobody requested the stop and no one was there to board the bus. He was just doing his job, being extra careful given the weather. You would think that this teacher had been on a bus before; but, I guess not.

So remember. With this type of weather, always have extra patience.
