Re. Batman

I watched Batman (1989) on Saturday. It is still, by far, the best film involving Batman.

I did enjoy The Dark Knight, but all the hype was clouding my judgement. It's still a good film, but not as good as the Keaton/Nicholson/Burton version.

This is how I'd currently rank the films:

1. Batman
2. The Dark Knight
3. Batman Begins
4. Batman Returns
5. Batman Forever
6. Batman and Robin

One other thing....

Jack Nicholson was a better Joker than Heath Ledger.

I know Heath won an Oscar, but he wasn't as good as Jack (at least in my mind). Put it this way: Heath had the look. Jack had the character.

The Dark Knight - Initial Thoughts

It's simply AWESOME!

However, I bought too much into the hype and came out a little disappointed. I was expecting to watch something that would blow me away. Instead, I watched a film that is phenomenal, but didn't provide me with the personal impact I was hoping for.

Moral of the story: Ignore the hype and go in with a clear head.

Anyway, The Dark Knight is the perfect adaptation of the Batman character. Batman is a dark, tortured person, who wants the city streets to be rid of crime. He completes this task because he feels it's right and doesn't care about the consequences, or how people judge his actions. He's not trying to be a role model.

Heath was fantastic as the Joker. But again, I bought into the hype and wasn't blown away with his performance. However, the MVP of this film is Aaron Eckhart. He steals the show. The best part of The Dark Knight is the development of Harvey Dent/TwoFace.

8.5 out of 10. Go see this film!

I saw this on The Hour and had to post it:

This is Heath Ledger as The Joker in the upcoming Batman film, The Dark Knight.

This looks awesome! I was already going to see The Dark Knight, but now, I'm really excited about it. It looks as though director Christopher Nolan has captured the true characteristics of The Joker.

Cesar Romero's version was goofy. Jack Nicholson's version was insane. Heath Ledger's version looks psychotic. That's how The Joker was portrayed in the comics; a vicious sociopath who kills people and enjoys doing it.

You have give credit to Ledger. He has some big shoes to fill. Let's face it, Jack was phenomenal. No matter what Ledger does (apparently, he's based The Joker on the characters from A Clockwork Orange), he's going to be compared to Jack. Some will say he wasn't as good as Jack. Others will say he was as good as Jack. I wonder if anyone will have the stones to say Ledger was better then Jack.

Speaking about The Joker, how cool would it be if Jennifer Tilly was brought in to play Harley Quinn?
