The Hek has just returned from watching the NBA Slam Dunk competition. It was off the f**king chart! Josh Smith of the Atlanta Hawks not only won the contest but, has taken the art of the slam dunk to the EXTREME! Smith took the ball, jumped over Kenyon Martin of the Denver Nuggets who was sitting in front of the net on a chair and, put it in the net! Amare Stodamire of Phoenix Suns also had a sick dunk. It goes like this: the ball goes off the backboard, off Steve Nash's head, into the hands of Stodamire who takes it home. I am so worked up right now, I have to do some Tai Chi to calm down.

Congrats also to Steve Nash who won the skills competition.

To my man Stephen in the land of the rising sun: you have to see those dunks! It makes Spud Webb look like Oliver Miller.

The Hek was going through imdb.com and came across this new film called The Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy. The movie has a character named Zaphod Beeblebrox. There is a bar here in Ottawa with that same name. And, The Hek has always wondered how the bar's owner ever came up with that name. Now, The Hek knows. And knowing is half the battle, in bed.

Arthur Miller died today, he was 89 years old.

I am a bit sad about this because I have a very close connection to this man. My first performance for my high school drama club was in one-act play called "Accidental Death of A Salesman." The story was essentially about Willy Loman meeting his creator, Arthur Miller. I played the role of Miller and for two months, I researched and investigated this man's life. It also helped that I was reading "Death of A Salesman" in English class. He was an interesting man. Wrote plays and married Marilyn Monroe. The theatre has lost a great one. May he rest in peace.

Here is what a prof told myself and my fellow classmates yesterday:

"The main idea to remember about society is that existence sucks. You're born and then you die and that's pretty much it. So, how do we combat this awful reality. We combat it with four simple things; booze, sex, drugs and, religion."

Well the Patriots won the Super Bowl again. I guess it is now time to use the word DYNASTY when describing them. How is it that Tom Brady can be so perfect? The half time show was pretty good. A little toned down but, that was expected.

After the game The Hek watched "American Dad." It was okay, not fully funny. The Hek needs to watch a couple more episodes before he makes a judgment. The Hek's not too crazy about this new show following the "Family Guy" formula very closely when it comes to the main characters.

In conclusion, The Hek ate too much of the good food Noel and Leslie made. The Hek would also like to thank Noel and Les for the awesome Buffalo Bills band-aids he got as part of the festivities. The Hek cannot wait for the next time he cuts himself and uses them.

More ON THE GO stuff for The Hek today. This time, I was handing out flyers in Carleton's Uni-Centre. Normally people don't take flyers. But they took from me. Why? The Hek has the four C's.

And now, a glimpse at The Hek's day.

10:00am: The Hek wakes up
11:00am: The Hek gets a call from CKCU asking him to fill in from 1-3pm. The Hek accepts!
11:30am: The Hek goes to the doctor so he can have a bandage for his injured toe changed.
12:30pm: After waiting for an hour, The Hek is forced to leave and go to CKCU. The nurse tells him to come back later before 5:30pm.
12:40pm: The Hek arrives at CKCU and gets ready for show.
1:00pm: The Hek goes on air and has a great two hour show. Apparently, people in the CKCU office were dancing when The Hek played "Jive Talkin."
3:00pm: The Hek finishes his show and then helps his friend Chia with a computer program she is deigning for CKCU. The Hek also grabs a beagle, the second thing he has eaten today. A granola bar was the first.
3:30pm: The Hek zooms to the library to photo copy some notes for a friend who missed Tuesday's film lecture.
4:00pm: The Hek goes to his Canadian Literature class. Does his presentation on "The Luck of Ginger Coffee" and bolts for the doctor's office.
4:30pm: The arrives at the Doctor's office and waits.
4:45pm: A nurse changes The Hek's bandages and now he has to go back there on Friday.
5:00pm: The Hek arrives home, votes in the RRRA election and eats dinner.

That's it. That's all. Baby goes to sleep.

Today the Toronto Blue Jays announced that the Skydome will now be known as the Rogers Centre. The Rogers Centre? You have to be kidding me. For those of you who don't know, Rogers is a tele-communications corporation who owns a million things like the Blue Jays. The Hek does not mind if Rogers wants there name on the stadium but, calling it a 'centre?' What's that all about? Why not just call it the Rogers Skydome? That sounds much better. Well, another new thing to get use to. Maybe the new name will get the team to win more games.

Ever notice how the week goes by fast. HA! How many times has The Hek said that before on this blog? Anyway, The Hek's good buddy Simon Seline came by for a visit. It was good to see him. I never thought I would ever say this but Simon actually dropped off the face of the Earth. The Hek had two reasons for this: one, Simon was going to school all day and working all night; or two, he got married to a girl named Suzy Q. and moved to South Dakota. However, no matter what happened it was good to see him. Interesting fact, Simon was the second Carleton person The Hek ever met. Remember that. It's going to be on the test.

Apparently a scientist in England did some calculations and is now stating that today is the worst and most depressing day of the year. The reasons for this include: 1. The fact that by now, people have given up on their new year's resolutions; 2. Everyone's credit card bills from the holiday break are coming in; and 3. The weather is shit.

The Hek is sitting in a computer lab on a beautiful Friday morning. There's only about four other people with him. Everybody is typing away. Typing away as if there lives depended on it. Normally, I would be home at my own computer. However, once again fire alarm testing had to be done. This time, instead of the normal two hours, they will be testing that darn system for almost the entire day. Therefore, I need to find things to do.

So far, The Hek had breakfast, and I will probably go to the doctor's office. Then, at 1pm The Hek's going to head over to CKCU and help out there. This brings us to 3pm. Hopefully, everything will be done; so, I'll go take a nap.

I could go do that; or, maybe I'll just stay here and play with my self.

Funny thing happened to The Hek today. I forgot to wear a belt. Usually I always wear one but today, through some cosmic incident I did not wear it. Some how, some way, my pants stayed up and didn't fall. That's what I call, CRAZY GO NUTS!

Today's Lesson: Don't mess with The Hek!

There is one thing The Hek will not tolerate, cold showers. For the last few months, getting hot water in my suite was as hard as finding Bigfoot. Many times, Carleton maitenance came to my place, worked on some things and, encouraged me that everything was fixed. Yet, time and time again, I would step into the shower and be forced to have ice cold water splash on MY F**KING BALLS!

Today was no exception. However, it would appear that someone could read my mind. After I came home class, there was a nice letter waiting for me. It was Carleton residence who apologized and offered me a handsome credit on my account.

The Hek eats lots and lots of baby scrimp to see if he is allergic to it.

I have never had scrimp before. There must have been a reason for this. Therefore, I will put my body to the test to see if scrimp swims down my system gracefully or, wages war on my insides.

The Hek had a little too much to eat tonight. Gluttony was on my mind, I guess. Let's see, I had two tacos, two soft tacos, two slices of pizza, two cookies, some Spanish rice, some beef and an apple. There has to be tons of trans fats in all that.

The following is a conversation that took place between The Hek and a Doctor who just finished medical school and is now in residence at a local Ottawa hospital. For those that are wondering, The Hek went in for a consultation because my f**king toe still has not healed. Anyway, here is the conversation.

Doctor: Okay The Hek, I am going to prescribe for you some medication to bring the swelling down.
The Hek: Sounds good to me.
Doctor: Alright let me just print it.....here you go.
The Hek: Thank you.........Wait a second, this isn't my prescription.
Doctor: What?
The Hek: Look, it's a prescription for someone named Lesley Theires.
Doctor: Oh! It is. Well you are clearly not Lesley and you probably won't want her birth control pills either. Sorry about that.
The Hek: No problem.

You gotta love medical students. Just before the conversation two other students came in. They looked at my toe and said, "Wow, that has got to hurt" and "Ew, gross."

And The Hek is proud to report that he got a B on his 18 page paper.

The Hek is back; safe and sound in good old Ottawa, Ontario, Canada after a very relaxing 18 day vacation. Let me you tell you something, brothers and sisters. This holiday break was off the Hizzel fo Shizzel, and in 2005, things are going to come alive.

It will be interesting to see how the two Williams pan out for the Raptors. I not familiar with their stats but, it seems they're good at rebounding which is something the Raptors need. As for Zo Mourning. I really don't know what he can do for the Raptors. He is way past his prime. I have a bad feeling that this is going to be just like when Hakeem played for the Raptors; a big name player, way past his prime, who did nothing but sat on the bench and get injured.

I am very pleased to find out the Corey Koske has signed a deal with the Blue Jays. What this means is that Koske will take third base and Eric Hinske will move to first base. The main question for the 2005 season is who is going to step up now that Delgado is gone.

Yesterday The Hek slept for 13 hours straight. I woke up in the early afternoon and prepared to go to the library for some studying. As I left, I looked out the window and said to myself, "That's the only time today I am going to see sunlight." It starts to get darker earlier and earlier these days. Now, it is winter so, it is normal for that to happen. However, it is getting dark at 3pm; that is not normal. Maybe, the end is near.

My buddy Tim rocks! He took time out of his busy day in ENGLAND to give The Hek a little telephone call. Sorry I was not there, Tim.

Tim goes to Carleton but for this year, he's studying abroad. She's a brunett, HIYAOOOO! Actually, he is part of an exchange program where he spends his thrid year studying in England. The cool thing is that he keeps a blog about all his adventures in merry old England. Check it out, it is good stuff.

So there I was, enjoying a nice, peaceful nap; when suddenly, the damn fire alarm goes off. I hate fire alarms with a passion; especially if I know they are going to occur. Anyway, when the building emptied, we were all told that we took too long. Apparently, we are suppose all leave the building in 15 minutes. According to the fire alarm testers we took 25 minutes to evacuate the entire building. So, we have to have another drill…fun. Trust me, if there was a real fire, we all would have been out of the building in 5minutes.

Oh, for anyone that cares: Brent Butt didn’t call the show. There was some sort of mix up. Noel and I hope to have him on the Blend in the near future.

Thanks to everyone who came out to the show last night. The show went well and we had an excellent turnout. When good fortune like this occurs it gives me a sense that everything will always turn out alright. I have a lot on my plate for the upcoming weeks. There's my midterm on Wednesday, a presentation in another class, three papers due in seven days and, a newspaper article that I have been tailing for the last few weeks. It is going to be hectic and I am probably going to be stressed out. But I have a good feeling that everything will come out on the plus side.

The CKCU funding drive has come to a successful end. This year the station raised $103, 835.39 and as usual beat its annual goal of $93,100. Not sure what they're going to do with the remaining 39 cents but, they'll think of something.

In the meantime, it looks like the Raptors have got something going this year. Today, they beat Portland and are now 3-0 on the season. The Hek is not going to lie to you, that is sexy.

Also, I spent the entire day cleaning my pad. I shall celebrate this feat with a meal of tacos and alphegettis.

Chris Bosh put out an amazing performance tonight against the Pistons. Of course, when I was choosing my fantasy NBA team, I thought "Should I take Bosh?" I decided not too and look what happens. Fortunately, I did take Jalen Rose and he has done well.

Speaking about doing well, the Argos beat the Ti-Cats tonight and they move on the Eastern final against Montreal.

Okay, here is the thought of the day:

You know what sucks? When you try to download what you think is an episode of Jackass and instead turns out to be a compilation of two porn shorts and another short on fire safety.

First off, Wednesday Blend made a total of $145 for this years' CKCU funding drive. That is more then double from what Noel and I made last year. So, to all the people who dialed and donated, thank you!

What really bugs me about the results is that I now have to put up with another four years of anti-Bush sentiment. I can't stand that. Don't get me wrong. I oppose George Bush's polices but I also oppose this notion that he is some kind of demonic, immoral, heartless human being. There have been other politicians and world leaders who have been much worse than George W. Bush. Hitler comes to mind. So does Moussoni and Saddam. To disagree with Bush's stances on the issues is one thing. That's cool. But to make him out to be murderous insensible Texan is going to far. Of course that's just my opinion.

Last night I went on a haunted walk in downtown Ottawa. The stories were cool and creative but it did not scare me......until I went to bed, and lay on my bed in my dark room. Suddenly, things that shouldn't make noise, made noise. I was a little boy again; head under the covers, drenched in sweat. To be honest, the stories have made me a bit on the edge.

Okay, time to get down to business: World Series. Now Game one was a slugfest. But despite that, it's going to be a closely contended match up. So The Hek is predicting that the Red Sox will beat the Cardinals in seven games.

It's starting to get down to the nitty gritty here at Carleton. The Hek has got 3 midterms and one paper in the next four weeks. My first midterm will be just multiple choice, fill in the blanks, short answer and matching columns. Thank God.

I also saw Team America last night with my friend, Owen. Basically, if you like South Park, you will enjoy this movie. It makes a political statement in a vulgar way. "America: Fuck Yeah!"

Ah, the brilliance of the University Residence Cafeteria.

So, the caf at school decided they wanted to fix their dishwasher. When do they decide to fix it? This weekend which means that everybody has to use paper plates, cups and untencils. They decide it would be better to fix the dishwasher this weekend instead of last weekend when most the residence students were at home for Thanksgiving. Now everybody has to use the paper cuttlery. Bet you anything they run out by Saturday evening.

It is amazing how the weather can control how I feel.

Today in Ottawa it rained and poured in the afternoon and was completely dark and dreary. It made me quite miserable. And then, the rain clears and its sunny by 6:00pm and my mood changes to a more upbeat content feeling. The weather is one crazy kid.

The Hek did not watch it, nor do I care too. The way I see it, it's the lesser of two evils. Bush sucks and Kerry is a dull, boring, uninspiring man.

Oh my, another day, another box of stolen pens.

Yesterday, I had the chance to check out my buddy Simon's Stand up comedy act at Yuk Yuk's. He did an okay job. There were some comedians that were better and worse then Simon. The MC who I believe is named Chuck Milne was outstanding. And, I did enjoy Don Perrier as well. But Dirty Old Gord should be shot. He is a dirty, dirty man.
